Verse of the Day:
What is Baptism?
Baptism is being submerged in water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). It is a public declaration of your salvation and proclaiming the gospel message.
As baptism is being baptised in water and the Holy Spirit (John 3:5), the Holy Spirit cleanses you of your sins as you submerge yourself in the water.
Therefore, when you come out of the water, you are now a new creation in Christ, living a new life in Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17), with the Holy Spirit helping you to live righteously and holy by cleansing, purifying and refining you from your sins in your walk with Christ, to be more like Jesus.
Why should we get baptised?
Some Christians believe that the way to heaven and to spend eternity there is simply through confessing that Jesus is their Lord and Saviour and believing that in their hearts.
And they will recite John 3:16, as their declaration and argue that believing that God sent His one and only Son to die for our sins, so that we do not die in hell but have eternal life in heaven, will get them to heaven.
However, my sisters, over here at For All Is Through Him, we want to teach you the truth of God, so that you are encouraged and equipped to do the things of God not in deception and in distortion, but to live in the truth of Jesus.
Confessing Jesus is your Lord and personal Saviour and reciting John 3:16 does not get you into heaven.
Believing and having faith alone does not make you saved from death to enter into heaven. It is only a private declaration of your salvation.
In fact, Jesus puts it perfectly in Mark 16:16; “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
Did you see it?
“AND IS baptised”
This means: FAITH + BAPTISM = HEAVEN.
Let me use an analogy to further help you understand.
Who loves online shopping?
When you pick out the clothes you like and want to buy it, it goes in your shopping basket, right?
But does that mean you’ve bought your clothes and they will be delivered to you in the next few days?
No.
Why? Because you haven’t completed the transaction process. You have to buy the clothes in order to get them delivered to you.
That’s how entering the kingdom of God works.
The shopping basket represents your faith in Jesus and the transaction process represents baptism.
SHOPPING BASKET + TRANSACTION PROCESS = CLOTHES DELIVERED TO YOU.
You can’t get your clothes without going through the transaction process.
The same way you can’t enter heaven without being baptised in water and in the Holy Spirit.
So, to answer the question; “why should we get baptised?” Because it is the action behind your faith that you believe Jesus died, was buried and resurrected for your sins, so you can have a new life in Him and go to heaven.
Reflection:
Here are some questions I want you all to answer and reflect on:
- Do you have faith in what Jesus did for you on the cross?
- If so, would you not demonstrate your faith and love for God through your actions? The same way Jesus showed His love for you through His actions on the cross.
Stay Blessed,
