HOW TO LIVE LIKE JESUS

Do you want to live like Jesus?

Do you want to learn how to become more like Jesus?

Do you want your life to be a testament to who Jesus is to you?

Well, you are at the right place, in this blog post I will be sharing with you 6 qualities of Jesus Christ that you can start applying to your Christian lifestyle today so, that you can become a walking embodiment of Jesus Christ.

Let’s go!

1. Prayer life

Jesus always resorted back to His secret place in the presence of God through prayer. Prayer was a way for Jesus to speak to the Father to remain in His will and to ensure He was doing His Father’s business. The secret place was a sacred environment for Jesus to make important decisions about who He would call to be His disciples (Luke 6:12), to regain His strength and power after healing and preaching to the people (Luke 5:16), to regroup Himself before heading out onto His next mission (Mark 6:46)., and to cry out to the Lord when He felt weak (Matthew 26:36-38). Being in the Father’s presence was a habitual thing for Him to do.

As believers, we should constantly be willing to be in the Father’s presence, to listen to what He has to say, to remain in Him at all times so that we can continuously bear fruit in all seasons of our lives (John 15:5), and to just simply rest in His presence (Matthew 11:28-30). If Jesus prayed to the Father, then how much more shall we?

2. Peace in the storm

Jesus had peace through persecution and storms. When there was a storm at sea, Jesus slept through the storm but the disciples were not at peace as Jesus was, therefore, Jesus calmed the storm to show them that when you are in His presence you don’t need to have any fear, peace should be your primary response in times of trouble (Mark 4:35-41). When Jesus was rejected from His hometown, Nazareth and persecuted by the Pharisees, Sadducees, Romans and many other people, He still died on the cross for their sins so they would not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).

As believers, we should be reminded that Jesus warned us that we would face troubles in this world, but we should have peace and be encouraged knowing He has overcome the world, we have victory in Him (John 16:33).

3. Love others

Jesus showed unconditional love to others, whether they deserved it or not, He saw them as worthy of His love. Jesus taught us that the Greatest Commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and to love others as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39).

As believers, we need to learn to love others not only those who love us back, but also those who may be hard to love, including our enemies. Pray for those you struggle to love, once you do that you begin to see them how Jesus does (Matthew 5:44).

4. Forgive others

Jesus forgave us so that we have redemption (Ephesians 1:7). We are commanded to forgive so that we can be forgiven (Matthew 6:14-15). We don’t deserve to be forgiven for our sins, because we are sinners and we will continue to sin, and yet Jesus will continue to show us His mercy and grace.

Therefore, as believers, we should extend that grace to others and forgive those who hurt us. It is not an easy thing to do, but forgiveness is more about your character than the other person. Think about the times God has had to forgive you, and learn to forgive others with the heart of God (Ephesians 4:32).

5. Humble yourself

Jesus came to earth to not be served but to serve others (Matthew 20:28). Jesus did not have false humility where He acted as if He was not aware of His power or that He was the Son of Go. But it was because of His acknowledgement of who He was that He was able to humble Himself and serve others to lift them up, and put them before Himself.

So, as believers, we should recognise that we are children of God and be firm in our identity in Jesus Christ. Through this recognition we are not to exalt ourselves above others or become self-righteous (Romans 12:3), but we are to serve others and build them up so that they experience the love of God (1 Thessalonians 5:11). When you humble yourself before the Lord, He will lift you up in due time (James 4:10). It is not about us but everything to do with Jesus. Remove the focus from you and point it back to God.

6. Obey God

Jesus was obedient to the Father’s will regardless of how He felt about dying on the cross for our sins (Matthew 26:39). Jesus did not follow His heart of how He felt. Our hearts are deceptive, it can lead us on the wrong path making unwise decisions (Jeremiah 17:9). Instead, Jesus followed the will of God and was led by the Holy Spirit, regardless of how He felt.

As believers, it does not mean our emotions do not matter, but it means our emotions should not be the driving force of our decisions, rather the will of God should be. We are told to submit ourselves to the Lord (James 4:7). That is to put ourselves under the authority of God trust Him with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding, believing that He will direct us on the right paths and that He knows what is best for us (Proverbs 3:5-6).

This is not an exhaustive list of characteristics that we can implement to become more like Jesus in today’s world, but it is enough to get us started in becoming a walking embodiment of Jesus Christ. Allowing our traits and lifestyle to speak of the gospel of Jesus to everyone we meet.
