VIRTUES OF A PROVERBS 31 WOMAN BIBLE STUDY | FREE PRINTABLE

Do you want to become a Proverbs 31 woman?

From this blog post, you will learn the virtues that characterise a virtuous woman. You may find that there are areas in which you are doing great and others that may need some work.

Not every virtue you’ll be perfect in, you are a working progress and that is perfectly fine. As godly women, we are continually being sanctified to become the woman God created us to be.

Now, let’s get to it!

Context

In the 22 verses, from Proverbs 31:10-31, each verse begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This is what you call an acrostic poem which is also used in some of the Psalms. The purpose of making this Proverb into an acrostic poem was to ensure it was memorable and to express poetic skill.

Proverbs 31 was written to King Lemuel. Now, biblical scholars and commentators do not know anything about King Lemuel because he is not mentioned in the listed records of the kings of Judah and Israel. The conclusion is that he may have been a foreign king or he was king Solomon because Lemuel means belonging to God and Jewish legends believe this referred to Solomon.

This passage was written by the mother of king Lemuel. So, because old commentators and Jewish legends believe that this is in fact referring to king Solomon, therefore the mother is Bathsheba who is the mother of Solomon.

The purpose of Proverbs 31 was to describe the kind of wife the Christian man should pray for and seek after. It is primarily a search list for a man. However, Christian women can use this passage as guidance on the kind of character (virtues) she can have as she fears and follows God to become a woman of God. It is secondarily a checklist for a woman.
